As known, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), which changed its name to I League, has decided that Liga 1 clubs may use 11 foreign players, with eight on the field.
This certainty was decided after the General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPS) on Monday (7/7/2025).
PT LIB has indeed ensured that the clubs in Liga 1 are allowed to use 11 foreign players for the 2025/2026 season competition.
The implementation of 11 foreign players in Liga 1 is expected to improve the quality of the competition.
The reason is that with the presence of these 11 foreign players, they are expected to transfer their knowledge and experience to the local players.
However, this situation is not always seen as good for local players.
The fact is, with the presence of foreign players, it is believed to indirectly reduce the playing time for local players.
For this reason, APPI expressed great regret over the existence of this regulation, as the relevant parties did not communicate or discuss it beforehand with the practitioners or players.
This is because those who directly feel the impact are the players.
For that, APPI admitted that after they conducted a survey right after the 11 foreign players were announced.
APPI claims that most players in Liga 1 are uncomfortable with the regulation.
The thing is, they feel it will reduce their playing time.
They acknowledge that competition is indeed needed to improve the quality of the game.
However, this competition is considered to be fairly made.
This must start from the facilities, infrastructure, to the quality ecosystem, such as how countries with well-developed football industries have done.
APPI, as the representative of the players, indeed regrets this decision.
The fact is, with 11 foreign players, then 198 local players playing in Liga 1 must move to Liga 1.
Meanwhile, players who previously played in Liga 2 will also lose their positions and have to switch to amateur players in Liga 3.
For that, Andritany Ardhiyasa reminded again the statement from Indonesian National Team coach Patrick Kluivert.
As known, Patrick Kluivert previously stated that he would not give players a chance to join the Indonesian national team if they couldn't get playing time at their clubs.
Therefore, with the new decision from PT LIB, APPI hopes that all parties can reconsider this decision.
After all, players of the Indonesian national team must also have the right playing minutes, so as not to contradict Patrick Kluivert's future statements.
"As a association that oversees local and foreign players, APPI does not mind how many foreign players there are," said Andritany Ardhiyasa as stated in a statement received by Best for You, Tuesday (8/7/2025).
"What needs to be noted is how the flight hours of local talents in Indonesia are," he said.
Andritany mentioned Patrick Kluivert's statement because the new regulation set by PT LIB could make local players face difficulties in getting playing time in the future.
Therefore, they hope this regulation can be reviewed if the national football is to run well in the future.
"If the source of the competition is a more quality achievement of the National Team, then this regulation is certainly contradictory to the statement from Indonesian National Team coach Patrick Kluivert, who once stated, 'if the players don't have playing minutes in their clubs, then we can't get the chance,'" said Andritany.
