The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has concluded a five-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Public Relations/Public Affairs Officers from the Ministry and its key agencies in a bid to improve communication efficiency within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
According to Monday’s release by the Ministry, the workshop brought together 40 directors and officers from various aviation parastatals.
Facilitated by the African Investments and Development Group, the training was led by Frimpong Boateng, who underscored the critical role of synergy among aviation agencies.
He stressed that the complexity of the industry demands deliberate communication, inter-agency collaboration, and operational coordination to solve emerging challenges and serve the public effectively.
“The aviation industry is complex and requires communication, collaboration, and coordination among public affairs departments to inform and educate the public appropriately to solve problems,” said Boateng.
He continued, “Communication, collaboration, and coordination suffer when you allow individualism. Acquiring information skills will promote decision-making and implementation.”
He warned against working in silos and identified lack of trust as a major barrier to productive collaboration, highlighting the centrality of technology in aviation communication, and urged participants to embrace tech-driven tools in their daily operations.
“Agencies should not work in silos,” he said. “Unhealthy competition should be avoided. Officers must focus on solving problems as decision-makers.”
Participants were trained in a wide range of modules, including tetrafunctional communication in aviation, customer service strategies, leadership communication, and emotional intelligence.
Boateng reminded attendees that the core of communication is to ensure understanding and offer solutions, not personal gain.
Speaking during the event, the Head of Press and Public Affairs Unit at the Ministry, Odutayo Oluseyi, expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Keyamo SAN, for initiating and supporting the training.
He said, “Keyamo is an agent of change who is not relenting in driving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This training is the first of its kind in the history of the Ministry, and it will empower Public Affairs Officers to provide accurate and timely information to the public.”
He emphasised that effective communication, collaboration, and coordination are essential for the aviation sector to successfully narrate its achievements, and he urged policymakers to continue investing in human capacity development.
Also speaking was the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Abdullahi Musa, who praised the workshop for fostering synergy across aviation agencies.
“The training is key to Nigerians and the industry; we cannot achieve the desired results without proper communication, collaboration, and coordination,” Musa said.
“Information remains the lifeblood of every organisation.”
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Obiageli Orah, lauded the initiative and called for more inter-agency engagements.
“It was a wonderful initiative and an opportunity to interface with the Ministry and other agencies,” Orah said.
She added, “The initiative will enhance idea-sharing, teamwork, and inter-agency collaboration and further encourage productivity.”
Orah applauded the facilitator’s professional delivery and expressed FAAN’s willingness to support future editions.
