Accra, July 22, GNA – Very Rev. Francis Kojo Ennuson, General Manager of Methodists Schools, has called on Headteachers to commit to achieving educational excellence by upholding high academic standards.
He said developing effective teaching strategies, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, as well as adhering to a high sense of discipline and morality could help achieve educational excellence.
Very Rev. Ennuson, made the call at the ‘2025 Bishop’s Excellence Awards’, on Monday, in Accra, on the theme: “Discipleship – Growing into Christian maturity through excellence in education”.
He said academic excellence encompassed rigorous academic standards, engaging and effective teaching methods, innovative curriculum design, personalized learning experiences, supportive and inclusive learning environment, and high sense of discipline and morality.
The General Manger noted that educational excellence also prepared students for future opportunities and equipped them with necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges of modern world, encourage them to think critically, analyze information and develop innovative solutions.
He said, “In striving to achieve educational excellence, headteachers must create learning environments that
prepare students for a successful future and empower them to make positive impact in the world.
“It is my expectation that Heads will pursue vigorously these approaches and strategies so that educational excellence will be the hallmark in all our schools across the connexion.”
Very Rev. Ennuson congratulated all award winners and urged them to remain dedicated while encouraging their colleagues to strive for excellence in future editions.
Mrs Christiana Amobah Adjei, Greater Accra Regional Manager, Methodist Education Unit, said the awards was the first of its kind to celebrate deserving diligent Headteachers and teachers in four dioceses of the Methodist Church of Ghana in the region as they support the course of education and Methodism in general.
She said it was also to honour deserving learners for their outstanding performances in the 2025 Methodist Competitive Examination for Primary six and Junior High School (JHS 3), and the 2025 Methodist Education Week Quiz and Choral competition.
“Deserving schools were also rewarded for national achievements as well as some special individuals.”
She said honourees were selected through a rigorous process that included nominations, interviews, field assessments, and evaluations based on classroom work, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Awards were presented in various categories covering headteachers, teachers at all levels, learners, and schools.
Madam Juliana Asante, of the Kpone Methodist ‘A’ Basic
School emerged the overall best Headteacher for the region, followed by Madam Dora Naa Darkua Dodoo, of John Wesley Methodist Basic School, and Mr Eric Amankwah Marfo of Bethel Methodist Academy, Taifa.
In the teacher’s category, Madam Josephine Nimado, of Rev Thomas Clegg Methodist Basic School won the first best teacher for JHS, followed by Madam Vera Adjetey of Abossey Okai Methodist Basic in second place and Mr Leonard Ampabeng of Ebenezer Methodist Basic school came third.
The first best teacher for primary was awarded to Madam Eva Sacketey, of Bethany Methodist Basic School, while Mr Godfred Tabiri of John Wesley Methodist received the second-best teacher award and Mr Benjamin Dodoo of St John Methodist School complex got the third best teacher award.
The Kindergarten category saw Madam Bernice Owusu of the Bethany Methodist Preparatory school wining the first best teacher award. The second place went to Madam Grace Quansah of the John Wesley Methodist School and third to Madam Josephine Dennis of St Paul Methodist Preparatory School.
In addition to individual recognitions, schools and learners were awarded for their performances in the 2025 Methodist Competitive Examinations, as well as in regional quiz competitions and choral contests at the basic and senior high levels.
