BRICS Summit 2025 Agenda
BRICS organization now consists of 11 countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.
Nevertheless, this organization also has partners with several countries, namely Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
According to the official BRICS website, the event will start with an official arrival ceremony for the heads of state and government.
Then, a photo session is scheduled.
Two plenary sessions will be held on the first day of the Summit. The first plenary session addresses the theme "Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance."
Second session themed "Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence."
Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva will host the evening reception.
KTT BRICS Day 2, Monday (7/7/2025), will discuss the issue "Environment, COP30, and Global Health."
Reasons Indonesia joins BRICS
BRICS organization (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) is a major economic bloc that combines developing countries with significant economic potential.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said that by joining BRICS, Indonesia is increasingly seen as an important country in the global order.
"In less than three months, BRICS members agreed to accept Indonesia as a full member. This shows that Indonesia is seen as an important country in the global order," said Sugiono, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/1/2025).
According to the Foreign Minister, this decision was doubted by some parties because it was considered to deviate from the principles of Indonesia's foreign policy.
However, the government emphasized Indonesia's membership in BRICS as a tangible implementation of the active free policy itself, which has been the foundation of Indonesian diplomacy for decades.
"This decision is not the result of one night's work, but the fruit of Indonesia's efforts, consistency, and firm diplomacy. As a BRICS member, Indonesia will bridge the interests of developing countries, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, and contribute to easing geo-economic and geopolitical competition," continued the Foreign Minister.
In addition, this step also aligns with Indonesia's active participation in other global forums, such as G20, APEC, IPEF, MIKTA, and CPTPP, as well as the ongoing accession to become a member of OECD.
