Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has finally broken his silence about Police Constable Hiram Kimathi's decision to defy transfer orders.

Before receiving a transfer order from Machakos to the far-flung, volatile Todonyang base in Turkana, Kimathi had condemned Murkomen over his shoot-to-kill orders.
Why was Hiram Kimathi transferred to Turkana?
Speaking on Thursday, July 17, Murkomen stated that the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, had seen Kimathi as a very hard-working man before ordering his transfer.
Murkomen, seemingly implying that the officer missed an opportunity, stated that he let himself down.
"I'd like to think the IG saw him as someone who was capable of doing a good job. Alijiangusha akisema hawezi ingia Todonyang kwasababu ni mwisho ya dunia na anaogopa. We thought he would come to assist citizens in moving forward," Murkomen said.
Additionally, the vocal CS stated that Kenyan police officers have the obligation to work anywhere in the country to ensure public safety and security.
He argued that the Inspector General of Police does not transfer police officers in a bid to discipline them, but rather in a move to ensure that work is done properly.
"Maybe there are those officers who are used to spending so much time on social media, but when they come to a place where there is an operation, they will be busy doing the work they are supposed to do," Murkomen added.
Murkomen affirmed that it is important that every police officer be willing to serve in any part of the country they have been deployed.
He asserted that adhering to transfer orders ensures that all citizens are served equally by receiving security from officers.
Did Hiram Kimathi decry impending arrest?
Murkomen's statement comes days after Constable Kimathi claimed that there were plans to arrest him.
In a statement on his X account (formerly Twitter), Kimathi stated he was notified of an impending arrest.

The officer, putting up a brave front, stated that he suspected the charges that would be pressed against him would be fabricated to punish him over his stance.
However, he asserted that he would not be bothered at all. He termed his impending arrest as a worthy cause, thus expressing gratitude to God.
The defiant officer had further asked his immediate boss at the Kyumbi Police Station, where he is currently attached, to take his children to Todonyang.
He issued the same message to Murkomen and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, calling out police brutality.
Additionally, Kimathi stated that he had resorted to standing for what is right, even if it meant putting his job on the line.
Is Hiram Kimathi seeking attention?
Early, CS Murkomen accused the officer of resorting to social media theatrics to get his attention and seek public sympathy.
Murkomen said he would not entertain Kimathi's outbursts, insisting that police officers have a duty to obey orders as stipulated in their oaths and terms of service.
However, in a quick rejoinder, the defiant officer said he would not be gagged to express himself on pertinent issues affecting the country, particularly abductions and police brutality.
He dismissed the CS's claims that he was looking for his attention, adding that he was only interested in addressing Kenyans, whom he serves as a police officer.
Kimathi further stated that the Interior CS was not his boss and thus he was not interested in meeting him. He argued that the National Police Service employed him and receives his salary from Kenyans, not the CS.
When asked by his followers on social media to resign, Kimathi claimed that he had written several resignation letters to his employer, but none had been accepted.
