The evaluation considered key performance indicators such as revenue growth, customer acquisition, technological innovation, and market expansion. OPay’s consistent performance across these metrics helped cement its leadership status among African peers.
Despite a global downturn in fintech investment, dropping 20% to $95.6 billion in 2024, the lowest in seven years according to KPMG’s Pulse of Fintech report, African fintechs have continued to thrive.
Companies like OPay are leading the charge in driving financial inclusion and building innovative solutions tailored to underserved markets.
Other Africa’s leading fintech companies featured in the list come from countries such as Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt, reflecting the broader regional momentum in digital finance.

OPay (Nigeria)With over 60 million users, OPay offers a super-app for payments, loans, and merchant services. Its valuation rose close to $3 billion in 2024.
The company was named Fintech Company of the Year in Nigeria and shortlisted by the World Economic Forum as a “Global Disruptor in Emerging Markets.”
PalmPay (Nigeria)PalmPay serves 35 million users and processed 15 million transactions daily in Q1 2025.
It is expanding into Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Uganda, and Tanzania. It also featured on the Financial Times’ Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies list in 2024.
Moniepoint (Nigeria/UK)Formerly TeamApt, Moniepoint reached unicorn status after raising $110 million from Google, Visa, and other investors.
It was recognized as Africa’s Fastest-Growing Fintech by the Financial Times in 2024.
Interswitch (Nigeria)Interswitch has issued over 85 million Verve cards and operates widely across African markets.
