Performance of Jhelum admin police, Rescue 1122, and other emergency services commended

In the wake of devastating flash floods across Jhelum district, the Punjab government has commended the exceptional performance of the district administration, police, Rescue 1122, and other emergency services for their coordinated and timely response that ensured the protection of lives and property.
Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, extended heartfelt appreciation to Deputy Commissioner Syed Muhammad Meisam Abbas and District Police Officer Tariq Aziz Sindhu for leading comprehensive and integrated rescue operations across flood-hit areas, including Sohawa, Jhelum, and Pind Dadan Khan tehsils.
Dozens of low-lying villages near the hilly regions of Jhelum were inundated by Thursday's sudden floods. The district administration had already placed emergency response teams - including Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and police personnel - on high alert. The swift deployment of Pakistan Army troops and aerial support by army helicopters further strengthened rescue efforts. More than 450 stranded residents were safely evacuated and relocated to relief camps - a major achievement noted by provincial authorities.
Tragically, a police constable was swept away by the waters while courageously saving lives - a sacrifice recognized at the highest level. No civilian fatalities were reported due to the prompt and unified action of local authorities.
In a public message posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Chief Minister praised the frontline rescuers, stating:
'Your courage, quick action, and selfless dedication in rescuing 400 stranded individuals during today's floods are nothing short of heroic. In the face of danger, you stood strong and brought hope to so many. Thank you for your unwavering service and for being the true guardians of our community.'
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, also visited flood-affected areas in Jhelum, acknowledging the efforts of all departments involved in emergency relief. Speaking to the media, he emphasized that relief and rehabilitation operations would continue without interruption, and affirmed that the Punjab government is committed to mobilizing all available resources for the recovery of affected families.
'All departments and personnel who performed their duties with excellence in these critical hours are worthy of appreciation,' he remarked.
While talking to The Nation, Deputy Commissioner Meisam Abbas said that the entire district administration was on its toes to ensure maximum relief to the flood-affected population.
'Five emergency relief desks have been set up in the flooded areas to provide round-the-clock services and assistance to the residents. So far, around 490 flood victims have been rescued, while a large number of livestock was also shifted to safer locations to prevent further losses,' he added.
Deputy Commissioner Abbas and DPO Tariq Aziz Sindhu, while responding to the accolades, stated that their teams remain committed to public service and will continue to uphold their responsibilities with dedication and integrity.
The efforts of the Jhelum district administration were further praised by State Minister Bilal Azhar Kiani and the Chief Minister's Advisor, Maj. Gen. (R) Dr. Azhar Kiani. Both highlighted the successful coordination between civil and military agencies, noting that 100% of affected residents were rescued without loss of civilian life, reflecting the efficiency and preparedness of the local governance structure.
