An 11-year-old boy from Pintu Lobang Kari Village, Kuantan Tengah District, Kuansing became viral for his act as a Togak Luan.
This moment occurred during the Pacu Jalur tradition in Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Riau.
At that time, Rayyan became Togak Luan, symbolizing that their team's path was leading the race.
When appearing at the Pacu Jalur event, Rayyan wore a black Teluk Belanga suit, complete with a traditional Riau Malay tanjak and sunglasses.
The video of her dancing on the edge of the boat received sharp attention from netizens.
"I didn't expect it to go viral like that. I only realized after looking at social media, many people outside also started dancing along," said Rayyan on Friday (7/4/2025), as quoted from Kompas.com.
Interestingly, Rayyan admitted that the dance movement was done spontaneously, without any training at all.
"It was spontaneous. There was no studying or practicing," he said with a smile.
Rayyan is indeed not an ordinary child. Since childhood, he has been familiar with the Kuantan River.
She is accustomed to swimming and rowing a boat, two important skills that a Togak Luan dancer must possess, the dancer at the end of the Pacu Jalur boat.
"Mom often took me to Pacu Jalur, so I became interested," recalled Rayyan.
Ayah Rayyan was a former member of the Jalur Tuah Koghi Dubalang Ghajo team. His older brother was also a Togak Luan.
Now, Rayyan follows in the footsteps of his family and has been part of the same team for two consecutive years.
Behind the spotlight of public attention, Rayyan remains a child as usual.
I was sitting in the 5th grade class at elementary school and aspired to become an TNI soldier.
The viral dance phenomenon of Rayyan is not only a local topic of conversation.
Ibunya, Rani, admitted to receiving many calls from within and outside the country.
"There are some from England, there are also from Dubai. They asked for a live stream, I agreed," Rani said.
Although proud, Rani often feels worried when Rayyan climbs the path, considering Togak Luan's position is very risky if balance is not maintained.
"Im afraid he might fall. But there are also rescue teams there. That's why I always remind him to maintain his balance," the mother said.
As a parent, Rani fully supports her child's enthusiasm for preserving the local tradition.
She hopes this viral moment can be a gateway for Pacu Jalur Kuansing to become more widely known on the international stage.
"Very proud. Hopefully, Pacu Jalur Kuansing will become more widely known," he hopes.
Number of Tourists in Riau Increases
Roni Rakhmat, Head of the Riau Tourism Office (Dispar), said that the viral popularity of the children's Pacu Jalur dance has a positive impact on Riau's tourism, especially in Kuansing.
Of course, this is a great pride for us, for Riau, and especially for Kuansing.
With the virality of "aura farming," the world's attention is increasingly turning to the Pacu Jalur festival.
"This proves that our local culture has universal appeal and can be known globally," said Roni during an interview with Kompas.com in Pekanbaru on Friday (7/4/2025).
Furthermore, Roni mentioned that the sharp increase in the number of tourists has a significant impact on the economy.
"Like full hotels, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are booming, and transportation is alive," said Roni
"Various service sectors have also felt the impact. This is driving the community's economy," he added.
From the tourism perspective, he said, Pacu Jalur is further consolidating its position as the main cultural tourism destination in Riau, even in Indonesia.
"we see an increase in interest from travel agencies and tourists to include Pacu Jalur in their visit agenda," said Roni.
Roni hopes that after the "aura farming" went viral, more foreign tourists will come to Kuansing to see Pacu Jalur.
As for the Pacu Jalur Kuansing peak event will be held on August 20-25, 2025.
