Residents Reject, Depok City Government Requests Temporary Halt of GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Church Construction

Best for you, CILODONG - The Depok City Government (Pemkot Depok) has requested the temporary halt of the construction of the GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Church in RW 03, Kalibaru Village, Cilodong District.
This is to maintain the conducive atmosphere after receiving rejection from the local residents on Saturday (7/5/2025).
Acting Assistant for Government and People's Welfare (Aspemkesra) at the Secretariat of Depok City, Manguluang Mansyur, even met directly with representatives of the community and the church officials at the Kalibaru Village Office to find out the facts of the issue.
According to Mansyur, in terms of permits, the construction of GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Church has followed the correct procedure.
Indeed, the Building Permit (IMB) for the GBKP Runggun Studio Alam church has already been issued on March 4, 2025.
"From the Permitting Office, starting from the permit process until now, the driver is already correct," said Mansyur.
After communicating with the church authorities and community representatives, Mansyur requested that the construction of the church be temporarily halted until a mutual agreement is reached.
"It's enough, if it's like this, we also ask to respect the community's decision, there should be no activities before the construction starts, even though the first stone was laid earlier, until it is cleared with the community," he said.
"If according to the residents' report, the signature on the permit is not genuine, but our authority does not reach that level to investigate whether the signature is real or not. Since all SOPs have been fulfilled, we issue the IMB," he continued.
For now, Mansyur asked all conflicting parties to respect each other.
The people are forbidden from committing anarchist actions, and the church also will not proceed until a mutual agreement is reached.
Protest of the People
Previously, hundreds of residents held a demonstration against the construction of a church in Jalan Palautan Reres, RW 03, Kelurahan Kalibaru, Kecamatan Cilodong, Kota Depok, West Java, on Saturday (5/7/2025).
Best's monitoring, the crowd expressed their aspirations through loudspeakers, right in front of the land where the church will be built.
"Push, pull, break it!" shouted a resident loudly.
In addition, they also expressed their aspirations through several large banners.
"Kami, seluruh warga RT 02 dan RT 05, RW 03, strongly reject the establishment of a church in our neighborhood," wrote the residents on one of the banners.
"Because they never valued our community and environment," he continued.
The head of the LPM (People's Consultative Council) of Kalibaru Village, Rudi Ardiansah, responded regarding the rejection of the church construction in RW 03, Kalibaru Village, Cilodong District, Depok City.
Rudi denied the rejection demonstration of the residents on Saturday (5/7/2025), as part of intolerant actions.
"Regarding intolerance, we don't go there, because why, behind me there are already two churches next to each other," said Rudi at the location.
"Here it is more about etiquette, or the treatment of the church towards our community," he continued.
Rudi explained that there are several issues causing the community to reject the construction of GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Church.
First, Rudi assessed that the church did not conduct socialization to the surrounding community regarding its construction plan.
"His first argument has already been long-standing since the beginning of its establishment, but there has never been any socialization to the community," he said.
Second, the acting officials in RT 02 and RT 05, RW 03 Kalibaru Village were never invited to mediation by the church party.
"They took the upper path, so that the permit arrived which was never signed by the RT and RW," he said.
"Actually, the community here is also angry, how many times has there been a conflict related to the construction by the church," he continued.
Rudi is more concerned about the etiquette or behavior of the GBKP Church Runggun Studio Alam.
Church's Response
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Marturia Church GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Depok, Zetsplayrs Tarigan, spoke out.
According to Tarigan, before the laying of the first stone, the church construction already had a Building Permit (IMB) issued on March 4, 2025.
In addition, the church party also claims to have obtained the approval of 60 percent of the local residents.
"Nah, sehingga FKUB sudah ada rekomendasi, dari FKUB kita urus IMB nya ke DPMPTSP dan sudah selesai kita kerjakan," kata Tarigan di lokasi.
Tarigan added that the church party has also held meetings with the Cilodong Subdistrict Head, Kalibaru Village Head, Kalibaru Village LPM, and RT 02 and RT 05, RW 03 of Kalibaru Village on Thursday (7/3/2025).
Based on the meeting, the church will donate part of the land for road access.
"No, based on that IMB, that's why we are doing the groundbreaking," said Tarigan at the location.
"Because this road is only 1.5 meters, but we have 3.5 meters, we want to donate it for the road to the complex or to the residents," he continued.
GBKP Runggun Studio Alam Church in Depok is also ready to participate in social activities in the surrounding community. (m38)
