This is the gloomy face of some of our elites who are currently entrusted with power. Instead of acting wisely, they regard power as an inheritance. Yet power is not their personal property. Today, some of our leaders may not need to extinguish oil lamps. But they need to extinguish the desire to smuggle family affairs into the realm of their positions. They need to restrain themselves from the habit of using state letterheads as personal letters of privilege.

A bitter satire about how uncontrolled power turns into a special tool for a few people, including for favoring themselves and their families over the interests of the people.
In this country, there are too many smart people, but not many who know shame. There are too many talks about integrity, yet unwilling to be firm when tempted by personal comfort. We have lived too long with officials who feel they are small kings. Yet, position is merely a means to serve, not to be served.
Umar bin Abdul Aziz has long passed away. But his legacy has never truly disappeared. Indeed, today, this nation needs a leader who, although not perfect, can still distinguish between what belongs to the country and what belongs to his own family.
Because if the line is left blurred, don't be surprised if one day an official letter for picking up grandchildren is issued, with copies sent to all the people of Indonesia.
The people are once again asked to be patient and patient.
