Best for you, Malang - The East Java Provincial Sports Games (Porprov) IX 2025 was officially closed in a grand ceremony on Saturday (7/5/2025). The closing event was held at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, and attended by thousands of people from various regions.
The stadium, a source of pride for Malang's residents, was filled with spectators. The 20,000-seat stand was completely crowded by the people who wanted to watch various entertainment during the closing ceremony of Porprov Jatim 2025.
The event started with a healthy heart exercise attended by 3,000 participants. The atmosphere became more vibrant with the performance of Polisi Cilik (Pocil), a program nurtured by Satlantas Polres Malang, which amazed the audience.
All the attendees stood up when the Indonesian national anthem was played. The audience in the stands even turned on their phone flashlights, creating a touching and strong sense of nationalism.
Cultural performances also enlivened the event, such as the Bapang Mask Dance performed by 3,000 elementary to junior high school students, the Garudeya dance drama, and the Hadrah Ishari performance.
The closing ceremony was marked by the handing over of the rotating trophy from the Deputy Governor of East Java to the Mayor of Surabaya. Surabaya was once again declared the overall champion of Porprov Jatim 2025.
The Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, expressed appreciation to all contingents and KONI (Indonesian National Sports Association) of regencies/municipalities in East Java for the success of the Porprov event.
"I appreciate all the KONI city/regency in East Java, branch officials, and athletes of the contingent who have achieved success. We have closed the East Java Provincial Games, which generally ran well," said Emil.
She hopes that the athletes who have achieved success in the 2025 East Java Provincial Games can continue to improve their skills up to the national and international levels.
"Semangat and optimism must be in our possession. Let us give support to our sports. And always have a sporting spirit because we are brothers from East Java," he said.
Closing ceremony was closed with the performance of a Javanese singer, Niken Salindri. Thousands of athletes from various delegations could be seen gathering in the middle of the field to dance together.
Songs like "Lamunan" and "Stecu" performed by Niken made the atmosphere even more lively. Audience from the stands also came down to the field to enjoy the entertainment.
Malang City Ready to Challenge Surabaya in the X Porprov 2027
After securing the second-place position at Porprov IX Jatim 2025, Malang City declared its readiness to seize the overall championship title at Porprov X, which will be held in Surabaya City in 2027.
With 137 gold medals, 127 silver, and 117 bronze, Malang City collected a total of 919 points. This number shows a significant increase compared to Porprov VIII, where they only won 74 gold, 52 silver, and 80 bronze.

The growth of medals and points in Malang City reached 90 percent, making it the region with the highest achievement increase in Porprov IX 2025.
President of the Malang City KONI, Djoni Sudjatmoko, welcomed this achievement joyfully. He mentioned that the growth of Malang City's achievements far exceeds other regions, including Surabaya.
“Target kita kan runner-up, target medali untuk mengamankan posisi runner-up sesungguhnya 130 emas, 120 perak dan 110 perunggu, itu sudah aman dalam perhitungan & analisis KONI Kota Malang sejak akhir 2024,” terang Djoni.
Regarding the 162 gold targets, Djoni explained that this number was used as a strategy to boost the spirit of all sports branches.
"Gold acquisition of 162 is our strategy to boost the spirit of the sports branches so they are strongly motivated," he explained.
"Dan alhamdulillah the runner-up target has been surpassed and far left behind the third position and is getting closer to Surabaya's position," he added.
Djoni highlighted the growth of Malang City's medals, which almost reached 100 percent as an indicator of the revival of sports in his region.
"From the perspective of medal acquisition growth, Malang City is number one with a growth rate above 90 percent," he said.
"Meanwhile, Surabaya itself only grew by 20 percent. We should be proud of that," added Djoni.
Seeing this achievement, Djoni is confident that Malang City can become a major challenger to Surabaya in the 2027 Provincial Games.
"Seeing the numbers above, we are confident that in the 10th Porprov in 2027, we will certainly be able to win the overall championship, as long as we maintain the existing and currently established training pattern, bismillah," he said.
Djoni also expressed gratitude to all sports branches and supporting elements that have contributed to the success of Malang City in the IX Porprov 2025.
