Nairobi - Ruarak Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang has encountered hostility during President William Ruto's ongoing tour of Nairobi county.
On Thursday, July 17, the president made several stopovers in the capital as he launched several projects, such as the inspection of the Climate Worx programme in Ruaraka.
What did Ruto say about the Baba Dogo grounds?
In his speech at Lucky Summer, the head of state was applauded after he ordered a halt to the ongoing construction at the Baba Dogo ground.
Ruto ordered police officers manning the ground to vacate, arguing that it belongs to the citizens.
“I hear that there are police officers present in that field. I am giving a directive that the police officers must leave the field immediately. They should vacate the area because that field belongs to the citizens,” Ruto said as the crowd cheered.
However, drama unfolded after Kajwang, the area lawmaker, was given a chance to address the crowd.
Was TJ Kajwang booed in Lucky Summer?
A section of the residents heckled and booed the ODM lawmaker without fearing the presence of the president.
When Ruto called upon Kajwang to make a short speech, some residents could be heard asking the president to give a chance to another person.
As Kajwang, a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, attempted to speak, a wave of chants erupted from the crowd, as some chanted, 'Kajwang Must Go!'
It was not clear why the crowd was hostile to the lawmaker, but it sent a strong message of dissatisfaction with his leadership ahead of 2027.
Despite the heckling, Kajwang continued and addressed the gathering, thanking the president for stepping in to resolve the escalating dispute over the Baba Dogo grounds.
"When you are here, l free Mr President. And the way you have issued the orders about the Baba Dogo field, we are going to occupy it," Kajwang said.
Meanwhile, area MCA Victor Omondi Ochola alias Ringo, was received with cheers as the president gave him a chance to address the gathering.
Why was UDA MP heckled as Ruto watched?
In a similar incident, nominated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP Dorothy Muthoni was badly booed in front of the president.
Muthoni faced a hostile crowd in Meru after she appeared to hail Ruto for incentivising dairy farmers.
Ruto was in Meru on Saturday, June 21, to grace the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day at the Meru ASK Showground.
While addressing the audience, the nominated MP's speech was cut short after she marvelled at Ruto strengthening the milk industry.
Did Nyandarua residents heckle Kimani Ichung'wah?
In March, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah had a rough time addressing residents of Nyandarua County during a government development tour led by President Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki.
Ichungw'ah was heckled by locals who accused him of betraying the community and disrespecting former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
He was forced to cut short his speech and hand over the microphone to the president after his attempt to calm them down failed.
He accused local leaders allied to Gachagua of mobilising and paying youths to heckle him before the president to create an impression that he is unwanted in Mt Kenya.
Ichungw'ah particularly pointed an accusing finger at Nyandarua senator John Methu, who skipped the event.
However, Methu dismissed the claims, saying the people of Nyandarua were tired of government rhetoric, broken promises and punitive tax policies that had killed their businesses.
He also suggested that Ichungw'ah did not give the locals "listening allowance", thus the anger and fury directed at him.
He claimed the people of Mt Kenya region had been duped and betrayed by the Kenya Kwanza government, and their presence at the public rallies needed to be accompanied by a token of appreciation from the president and his team.
