KENDARI WE Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas delivered an official statement on behalf of the Indonesian government at the opening of the 66th Session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.At the international forum, Supratman emphasized Indonesia's commitment to making digital transformation a top priority in managing intellectual property (IP).
"Aligned with the fourth point of Prabowo Subianto's government vision. Our goal is to provide faster, more transparent, inclusive, and easier access to intellectual property services for the community and business actors. For this, we are currently exploring various alternatives and technologies, including those from WIPO, to increase productivity and make the system even more accessible," said Supratman in front of the delegations of member countries on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
In his speech, Supratman emphasized that accelerating digital transformation in the AI sector is a response to the rapid development of technology and innovation-based economy.
According to him, Indonesia also wants to become a country that actively shapes an inclusive and competitive global AI ecosystem. Currently, all AI services in Indonesia are conducted online, starting from the application service, post-application, even complaints and information requests can also be done online.
Digital transformation of AI services has an impact on the increasing number of AI requests in Indonesia, which has continued to rise over the last decade.
The number of KI applications in the first semester of 2025 was 152,115 applications, or 20.02% more than the first semester of 2024, which reached 126,744 applications.
Copyright registration of 78,209 dominates the number of these IP applications, followed by trademarks with 64,388 applications.
Patent and industrial design applications have also increased.
A total of 5,831 patent applications, followed by industrial designs with 3,668 applications.
As a concrete form of strengthening the AI ecosystem, Supratman also stated that Indonesia is updating its national regulations, such as the revision of the Patent Law, Industrial Design Law, and Copyright Law.
This legislative step is expected to provide legal certainty while protecting the rights of creators and innovators in a more adaptive manner.
Highlighting Indonesia's active role in promoting creative economy based on AI, the Indonesian delegation also presented a special exhibition titled "Local Roots, Global Reach: Showcasing Indonesia’s Intellectual Properties" as part of the side events of the WIPO General Assembly.
This exhibition showcases outstanding AI-based works and products born from Indonesia's cultural wealth and local innovation.
"We invite all delegates to visit our exhibition, enjoy the displayed works, and of course interact directly with the creators," said Supratman.
Indonesia expresses appreciation for the various technical support and capacity development from WIPO, especially in the field of commercialization of IPR, development of SMEs, and strengthening of Geographical Indications branding.
The Indonesian government reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting international cooperation in strengthening a fair and sustainable global AI system.
With this step, Indonesia hopes to accelerate the realization of a modern, inclusive intellectual property protection system that supports national economic growth.
This system will support the increasing awareness and understanding of AI in Indonesia, making it more resilient in facing the digital era and the dynamic global competition.
The WIPO General Assembly is the highest-level meeting of the organization, held annually.
The participants of this general session are representatives from 194 WIPO member states, international organizations, and other stakeholders.
Through this general meeting, various global KI strategic policies will be discussed, the discussion of current KI issues, as well as the adoption of treaties or international agreements related to KI.
Besides the Minister of Law, the Indonesian delegation attending this session is Yovie Widianto, Special Staff of the President for Creative Economy. ***
