He also shared his recent experience of being invited by the Malaysian government to discuss joint strategies in strengthening the role of MSMEs.
In his opinion, the countries in the Southeast Asian region are now in a new momentum of revival.
"Today, Southeast Asia is rising, not only Singapore, but also Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. We did not come to compete, but to collaborate for a shared future," said Sandi in a written statement received.
Meanwhile, he introduced the concept of "Innovation with a Soul," which he summarized in three pillars: Innovation, Adaptation, and Collaboration (3ion).
He emphasized that innovation does not always have to be high-tech, but must be able to touch people's daily lives. "Innovation is not only about high-tech, but also about high-touch. Innovation must be present at home, in the market, and in the fields, not only in the laboratory," he explained.
In his opinion, Southeast Asian countries, especially those belonging to ASEAN, have the strength to unite local wisdom and global ideas.
Sandiaga Uno also emphasized the need for inclusive innovation. "So it's not only about creating unicorns, but also empowering social entrepreneurs who have a social impact," he added.
The great potential of MSMEs in the economy is proven through projections in Indonesia. Sandiaga Uno mentioned that MSMEs contribute about 97 percent of employment. Nevertheless, MSMEs in Indonesia still face digital gaps and access to technology.
Therefore, he initiated OK OCE, an entrepreneurship movement that now has more than 600,000 members.
For MSMEs affiliated with OK OCE, they are increasingly developing, even currently establishing cooperation with partners in Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States.
"if you want to see the future of ASEAN, look at the grassroots (UMKM)," added Sandiaga Uno.
She added that empowering MSMEs must be done through digital literacy, halal certification, access to green financing, and penetration into e-commerce markets.
At that occasion, Sandiaga Uno also explained the role of INOTECH Foundation, which trains Indonesian village youths in using artificial intelligence (AI) for agriculture and marine sectors through the Desa Emas program.
Technology, he said, must be a empowering force for families, rural youth, and small business actors.
Furthermore, he emphasized that challenges such as the climate crisis, rising living costs, and family resilience are not future issues, but real problems of today.
"Therefore, the innovation introduced must be circular, cost-effective, and touch the community," he said.
In closing, Sandi invited the entire country to collaborate, exchange innovations for a better future.
"Let's turn the dividing walls into bridges of collaboration, creating the future through joint solutions," he added.
