Doctor who transplanted Ferdinand Waititu’s hair twice speaks out, clears air on viral photo
- A viral photo of ex-governor Ferdinand Waititu at a cosmetic clinic stirred widespread online debate, triggering a response from the facility

A photo of former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu at a Nairobi hair transplant clinic has gone viral, sparking public uproar over his whereabouts.

The image, posted online on Sunday, July 20, shows Waititu at the Artistic Hair Transplant Center, appearing healthy and relaxed, despite being convicted of corruption and sentenced to jail in February 2025.
Waititu was sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay a fine of KSh 50 million. He applied for bond pending appeal but was rejected in March.
He filed another bail request but was rejected again in a ruling delivered in May.
He was taken back to Kamiti Maximum Prison, and little information was shared about him until recently when his photo surfaced online.
Is Ferdinand Waititu released?
Many Kenyans online questioned how the former county boss could freely visit such facilities when he is supposed to be serving time behind bars.
No information about his release on bail has been shared.
Best for you.co.ke reached out to the clinic for clarification.
In an interview, Jared Kimwaga, popularly known as Babu, confirmed that he handled Waititu’s hair restoration twice: first in February 2024 and then in October 2024, just a month before his arrest.
“The first transplant was on the crown, and the second focused on the frontal hairline. We haven’t seen him since his arrest. We do not track where clients go after receiving service.
I reposted the image to showcase the kind of clients we handle and the quality of our work and that we are credible," Kimwaga said.
His response indirectly confirmed that Waititu remains in prison, as the government has not issued any official statement regarding his release.
What is the process of hair transplant?
He further explained the transplant process, describing it as mild and non-invasive.
The procedure involves numbing the donor area, extracting hair follicles, and implanting them over two sessions of about two and a half hours each.
Aftercare includes six days of saline spray and a follow-up for cleaning and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment to promote growth.
“The hair is permanent and typically takes six to 12 months to grow fully. The transplanted strands are even stronger than natural hair,” he added.
Kimwaga said he has performed transplants on various public figures, including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, and nominated MP Sabina Chege.

The specialist, who has over a decade of experience, said the clinic’s services aim to restore confidence and dignity in clients.
“This is the best transformation. We bring people back to their senses—hair is important," he noted.
Kimwaga observed that many individuals wear wigs to conceal hair loss, cut styling costs, or emulate Western aesthetics, whereas hair transplants provide a permanent solution.
He added that wigs can help preserve existing hair by avoiding the stress of frequent plaiting and colouring, but emphasised that well-maintained afro hair remains a neat and stylish option.
The Artistic Hair Transplant Centre is a state-of-the-art facility in Nairobi offering customised treatments for both men and women.
Services include follicular unit extraction (FUE) and scalp micropigmentation (SMP), all delivered using modern, minimally invasive techniques.
Faith Risper undergoes hair transplant surgery
In other news, socialite Faith Risper revealed that she underwent a hair transplant procedure at the same facility to address hair loss she experienced after motherhood.
In a video shared online, she credited the clinic with restoring not just her hairline but also her confidence.
Risper expressed appreciation for the medical team, describing the facility as a leading destination for Afro hair restoration.
She also thanked the clinic’s staff and partners for their support during the transformation.
