G-Pluck Revives Memories of The Beatles in Jakarta

JAKARTA, Best for you - The sound of the Höfner bass guitar echoed as "I Want to Hold Your Hand" opened a nostalgic night at the Jakarta International Velodrome on Saturday (7/5/2025).
G-Pluck Beatles Band, a tribute band of The Beatles from Indonesia, appeared in a single concert titled Waktu Indonesia Tribute (WIT), taking the audience through three phases of the musical evolution of The Beatles.
Produced by The Mahariza Company (TMC), WIT presents an intimate and exclusive concert concept, as a tribute to The Fab Four.
As part of this tour, Jakarta is one of the stopover cities, presenting three acts of performances, each representing a different era of The Beatles: from their early mop-top period, the colorful experimental phase, to the contemplative final era.
On stage, G-Pluck gave it all. Garnida Awan (Paul), Gilang Pramudya (John), Fery Gustian (George), and Riza Bachri (Ringo) performed fully dressed in costumes, with vocal accents, and an authentic collection of instruments—including iconic guitars such as the Rickenbacker 360/12 and Epiphone Casino.
Two additional musicians, Aufa Kantadiredja and Luthfi Zamzami, strengthened the formation with keyboard and sequencer parts, bringing an orchestration reminiscent of George Martin and Billy Preston.
Approximately 2,000 spectators filled the venue. Even though they were seated, they were immersed in the songs—those who remembered their youth with the Beatles, as well as the new generation growing up in the eternity of this Liverpool band's music.
The most lively moment occurred when "Hey Jude" was sung, inviting everyone to unite in the long echoing "na-na-na-na" section. It made this concert feel like a collective celebration of our respective memories.
The setlist that night included dozens of songs, from "Yesterday," "Paperback Writer," to "A Day in the Life," complete with an Abbey Road medley and a joyful encore: "Hello Goodbye." Some songs were performed for the first time by G-Pluck, including "I Am the Walrus," which received an enthusiastic response.
Not only music, this concert also includes various personal moments. Between the songs, some videos from the audience are played. From the story of a deceased mother, a father's birthday, to a romantic moment between a couple, which is then greeted by Awan with the song "In My Life".
There was also a theatrical surprise when a "Yoko Ono" appeared on stage, arriving late together with John Lennon, then sat quietly knitting without expression during the late-era segment.
Although it caused laughter and some annoyed murmurs from the audience, this gimmick actually reinforced the impression that the concert was not just a mere imitation, but an effort to recreate the historical atmosphere.
G-Pluck has existed for more than 30 years, with a high level of dedication to musical accuracy and visual performance. They are not just a tribute band, but a bridge of memories for many people.
"Our love for The Beatles led us to form G-Pluck in 1998, so almost 30 years ago, and it turns out there are still many fans of The Beatles around the world," said Awan Garnida.
And that night, under the stage lights and the familiar harmony of four voices, memories came back to life.
The Beatles may no longer perform, but their spirit that night felt real—in the hands and hearts of musicians who love, revive, and re-share their magic.
