This process marks the physical establishment of a 13-meter-high Tabuik, which is now ready to be paraded in the Hoyak Tabuik tradition.
The Tabuik procession has been ongoing since 06:40 WIB, the physical Tabuik (upper and lower pangkek) are already at the location.
Before the Tabuik procession ascends, the Tabuik Pasa children install various decorations such as Tabuik birds, Bungo Puncak, and Bungo salapan.
After everything is installed, the two parts of Tabuik are laid down and carefully pushed. This process takes quite a long time, about 10 minutes.
When the upper and lower jaws are connected in a lying position, the connection is tied with a rope and tightened with nails.
After both parts are felt to be united, the next step is to tie the physical part of Tabuik with a rope and pull it so that it can stand perfectly.
At 08:20 WIB, the Tabuik procession to the hill was completed, and the physical Tabuik, which is 13 meters tall, has already been assembled.
Old Man Tabuik Pasa Zaulbakri Mursyid said, after the Tabuik ascent ceremony, the Hoyak Tabuik will take place.
"This Hoyak Tabuik is the process of carrying the Tabuik from where it was raised to the sea," he explained.
Hundreds of residents watch
The peak of the Tabuik Piaman Festival 2025 attracted the attention of hundreds of people in Pariaman City, West Sumatra.
They crowded at Simpang Tabuik on Sunday (6/7/2025) to watch the naiak pangkek processions, which are a highlight for local tourists.
For this tourist, it seems they have come to the location since early in the morning; visitors, as if they already know the schedule of tabuik in this final event.
A visitor, Rial, said he departed from Padang City specifically to witness this climax process.
"Fortunately, it's currently school holiday, and I'm taking my child on a trip," he said.
As a person from Pariaman, he said it has become a routine to watch the tabuik.
According to him, only the transmigrants from West Sumatra came to this event; it's impossible that someone who only migrated to Padang City would not attend.
Visitors are seen arriving with their families, busy capturing the moment as the tabuik is carried up the hill.
Some other visitors also asked the child of the tabuik to capture the moment of their child in front of the tabuik before the ceremony began.
Attended by the Minister of Culture
Culture Minister Fadli Zon made his debut at the 2025 Piaman Tabuik Festival, Pariaman City, West Sumatra, Sunday (7/6/2025).
The minister also witnessed the tabuik ceremony being thrown into the sea at Gandoriah Beach, Pariaman City.
This marks the first visit by a minister-level official in the history of the Pariaman Tabuik festival.
In addition to attending the ceremony, the Minister also inaugurated the Tabuik Pasa House as a Tabuik cultural museum.
Direct confirmation from the Acting Head of the Pariaman City Tourism and Culture Office (Disbudpar), Ferialdi, on Saturday (7/5/2025), affirmed that the minister's delegation will depart from Jakarta in the morning and arrive in Pariaman in the afternoon.
The Menbud agenda not only witnessed the Tabuik peak, but also will inaugurate the Tabuik Pasa House as a Cultural Museum around 14:00 WIB, before departing to Gandoriah Beach.
"This is the first time that a minister-level official attended, before it was only represented by a minister," said Ferialdi, proudly.
So far, although Tabuik Piaman has become a cultural icon of West Sumatra, no minister has ever directly witnessed this climax process.
Fruit of Struggle and New Hope
This historic visit did not come about by chance. Ferialdi explained that it is the result of the persistent efforts of the Pariaman City Government.
Three months ago, the Mayor of Pariaman, Yota Balad, together with his team, proactively visited the Ministry of Culture to submit a proposal for cultural museum assistance and also invited the minister to attend the Tabuik event.
"After that, we were handled by the Tourism and Culture Office to convince the ministry's side so that the minister would come to Pariaman," added Ferialdi.
The impact of this minister's presence is believed to be very significant.
Besides being the highest form of recognition from the central government for the Tabuik cultural heritage, it is hoped that this visit will help reintroduce Tabuik Piaman into the Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) or the national tourism calendar.
Thus, promotional support and budget from the center can flow abundantly again, as it happened last year.
"Presence of the minister means respecting the culture in Pariaman, this can motivate the community," said Ferialdi.
This motivation is important to maintain the spirit of mutual cooperation and the preservation of the Tabuik culture, which is a distinctive characteristic of the people of Pariaman, according to Deputy Mayor of Pariaman, Mulyadi.
