10. Another Morning Prayer

Here is the Islamic morning prayer reading.

The prayer that should always be performed in the morning.

Three Islamic morning prayers.

The prayer recited by Prophet Muhammad SAW, the prayer to welcome the morning and the prayer upon waking up.

Here is the complete Indonesian translation.

1. The Prayer Recited by Prophet Muhammad PBUH

According to Abu Hurairah RA, quoted from nu.or.id, the Prophet Muhammad SAW recited several prayers and remembrances for the morning.

As reported by Imam An-Nawawi, Al-Adzkar, [Damascus: Darul Mallah, 1971 M/1391 H], page 63.

Prayer includes the following:

O Allah, by Your grace we have become awake, and by Your grace we have become asleep, and by Your grace we live, and by Your grace we die, and to You is the resurrection.

O Allah, by You we wake up, and by You we sleep, and by You we live, and by You we die, and to You we shall return.

It means, "O Allah, with You I begin the day, with You I end the day, with You we live, with You we die. Only to You (we) return," (HR Abu Dawud, At-Turmudzi, Ibn Majah, and others).

Besides that prayer, Imam An-Nawawi also quoted the morning prayers and remembrances by the Prophet SAW. It is reported by Ibn Mas'ud in Sahih Muslim as follows:

We have awoken, and the kingdom belongs to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah. There is none worthy of worship except Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is Almighty over all things. O Lord, I ask You for the good in this night and the good that follows it. I seek refuge in You from the evil in this night and the evil that follows it. O Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the evils of old age. I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire and the punishment of the Grave.

Ashbahnā wa ashbahal mulku lillāhi wal hamdu lillāhi, lā ilāha illallāhu wahdahū lā syarīka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘alā kulli syai‘in qadīr. Rabbi, as’aluka khaira mā fī hādzihil lailata wa khaira mā ba‘dahā, wa a‘ūdzu bika min syarri mā fī hādzihil lailata wa khaira mā ba‘dahā. Rabbi, a‘ūdzu bika minal kasli wa sū’il kibari. A‘ūdzu bika min ‘adzābin fin nāri wa ‘adzābin dil qabri.

It means, "We and the power of Allah begin the day. All praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah, the One, without any partner. To Him belongs all power and praise. He is capable of everything. My Lord, I ask You for the goodness of this night and the next night. I seek Your protection from the evils of this night and the next night. My Lord, I seek Your protection from laziness and the weakness of old age. I seek Your protection from the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the grave," (See Imam An-Nawawi, Al-Adzkar, [Damascus: Darul Mallah, 1971 CE/1391 AH], page 64).

Muslims, sleeping after the Fajr prayer can be very pleasant. Because the body and mind still urge to close the eyes.

This is natural, because often we do activities until the night and make our bodies tired.

However, morning activities such as light exercise or reciting after prayer are better than going back to sleep.

Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, every morning recites a short prayer, which is quoted from Hidayatullah.com:

O Allah, bless my nation in its beginnings.

It means: "O Allah, bless my nation in their morning." (HR. Tirmidzi).

Morning after the dawn prayer, is the beginning to start activities. If the morning is spent sleeping and feeling lazy, it is a loss for you.

Ibnul Qayyim rahimahullah said, "The morning of a person is like his youth and his evening is like his old age."

The Messenger of Allah said, whoever does not wake up in the morning,

From Abu Hurayrah: {The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The devil ties three knots on the back of the head of one of you when he sleeps. With each knot, he strikes you with a long night. When he wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is untied. When he performs wudu (ablution), two knots are untied. When he prays, all the knots are untied, and he becomes lively and has a good soul. Otherwise, he becomes bad-tempered and lazy.}

From Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Shaitan will tie the neck of one of you while sleeping with three knots. He will whisper to you that the night is still long. If he wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot will be loosened. If he performs wudu, two knots will be loosened. And if he continues with prayer, all the knots will be loosened, so that in the morning he starts with enthusiasm and his soul is healthy. However, if he does not do so, he will enter the morning with a wicked soul and full of laziness." [Bukhari]

2. Prayer When Waking Up

Al-hamdu lillahi al-ladhi ahyanā ba'dama amātanā wa ilayhi al-nushūr.

Alhamdu lillahil ladzii ahyaanaa ba'da maa amaaa tanaa wa ilahin nusyuuru

It means: "All praise is due to Allah who has given us life after we were dead (awakened from sleep), and to Him we will be returned."

3. Prayer for Greeting the Morning

O Allah, by You we wake up, and by You we spend the day, and by You we live, and by You we die, and to You is the resurrection.

O Allah, by You we have become awake, and by You we sleep, and by You we live, and by You we die, and to You we return.

It means: "O Allah, because of You we experience morning and evening time, and because of You we live and die, and to You we will return."
